photography induction notes

We had been given an induction in the photography studio and therefore took down some useful notes that will help me for when i will be using the studio. i had learnt the following during the induction:

: I had been told of how to use the Nikon DSLR camera

: There are two backdrops for when taking a photo (Black & White) in order to create different effects as well as combine with the related genre

: how to use flash light on the camera with different lighting equipment such as the umbrella and the reflector

: The highest point on the soft box is 6.0 and the lowest is 2.0, i have been told to keep it on 3.0. the highest point has a stronger flash where as the lowest point has a more softer flash.

: The Gordox is a remote which  infared used to transmit from the camera to the lights which automatically sets the flash from the camera directly.

: The light stands are placed there to reflect the light

: There are two reflectors one silver and one gold, they botg give out different type of lights

: To take my first shot i must first set the camera on A which stands for automatic

: The other following keys on the camera stand for

M - manual    A- aperture priority    S - Shutter priority     Depth of field - foreground focus

:  My model must stand 6ft away from the backdrop in order for the image not to blend in with the colour of the backdrop

evaluation audience feedback task 4

Evaluation

To start with, for the research I used the internet to find out what music artists thought about file sharing and illegally downloading music. From the research, I found a couple of quotes from the artist themselves and placed them in my Article. I also on the other hand looked at different magazines such a Vibe which allowed me to have a clear view on the layout, structure and presentation. I was very reliant on the internet; to improve my research and skills I think I should have looked at more real life magazines and analyse them throughout which will allow capture specifications more quickly. I also added picture so my article can stand out and appeal to the readers. The strength of my research may not be punching; due to the fact that I had already gained some knowledge on file sharing and had used already what I knew, as well as researching on the internet. However I did not spent too much of my time researching on the internet. Although my research may not be in depth I feel I had enough pieces to come up with a valid article. I needed to have  enough time to find more important information that related to file sharing. Another weakness was that more websites was opinion of people and wasn’t reliable, which made it harder to find information that was reliable.

My journalistic skills were quite good; I looked at one or two articles for inspiration and a better guide. This allowed me to use a similar layout which is similar to the article I read up on. I think this method for me was useful as I wanted the article to be quite formal and simple but interesting. On the other hand I think my article was missing more facts. The lack of facts was a major flaw and weakness and will immediately put my article down although I think my article is a satisfactory quality.

The visual part of my project was produced and designed on a program called InDesign. I have not used this programme often but had a soft idea of how to control and what to do. Therefore allowed me not to waste too much time on learning which button is what. For a first timer I think I picked up the basic functions of the programme pretty quickly and didn’t find my-self in a difficult situation. Learning the functions is easy but actually practising what u need to do is the hard bit and I think my weakness fell there as it did take me some time to focus performing the function the way I want it. I just found it a bit difficult to transition and move things which I know to practice on; for future.

The advantage I had got from web publishing is that as my article was aimed at a younger generation, the use of web publishing allows me to use technology (a younger generation’s device) so anyone with technology would find it easier to roam and read online. This would appeal to them as they have quick access to them. Also the use of publishing is free this enables to save ransom amount of money from uploading your magazine online as you save lots of papers.

Audience Feedback
I think hamza’s single page spread looks very neat, simple but designed in a professional manner. The colour combination was very good-on the other hand I think its too simple, I think the use of colouring is very good but I do too think more can be done to improve its attraction. - santhush

I think the quality of the article is very good, the layout is very simple and readable; it is not messy. The article is well built up and is formally presented. In addition to this I think more pictures could be added or a two page spread would have been nice to see. I would also like to see more quotes from the artist. Overall I think it is a good piece but I think there is room for improvement. - Abu bakar

Also, feedback I got was my writing skills, saying it were formative but fun and interesting to read. However I feel that I could use some informative use of grammar to keep the audience engaged. Looking at the feedback, I can say that they were the same things discussed from both viewers. Using this feedback I find it useful as it helps me to make certain adjustments towards my finishing article and helps me to improve. The use of colour was good as well as the layout it was very neat however I can improve this.

Looking at my weakness, if I had given the opportunity to redo I would make the following changes:
I would gain more information to give better and more conclusive facts and statistics because this will make the reader engaged and understand my point of view I am trying to get across. Making the reader engaged is important as it allows them to carry on reading as they will be interested.

For my article I would have tried to add more interesting use of grammar both formal and informal use of words as it will make the article more enjoyable to read making the reader more engaged. I could have also used rhetorical questions keeping the reader involved.

Before creating my article I will make sure that I know how to use the software including tools and features so that in future preferences the amount of time being wasted would reduce which allows me to create my article confidentially. From using the programme confidentially it will allow me to design the article the way how people want it and create according to their words

If I can redo this article again I would add bright colour that would pull the reader such as red, but I would also make the texture colour also relate so it doesn’t look unorganised. I would prefer to add more picture into my article as looking back at my feedback more pictures could have been added so that the reader understands my point of view regarding file share.

preliminary task evaluation : LSC magazine

Evaluation: Ameer Hamza Ahmed
For my preliminary task magazine I created a magazine for Leyton Sixth Form College students. So therefore I called the masthead LSC. I think it is simple and straight forward which is what mostly every reader is looking for. I placed the masthead in the top left corner; it is a big sized font in the colour. Red was chosen because it stands out well with the black background this would catch the reader’s attention.
My main image is a medium close up of a student working and is placed right at the centre and stands out in front of the front cover. It is a suitable shot as it shows the student working and it connotes that LSC students are important. The student shows he is smiling which connotes to the readers that he is happy studying and enjoying his time in LSC.

My main cover line links with the main image as it talks about the person in the main image. The font is red and bold which relates with the masthead and so stands out. I also have added teasers which inform the reader what is going on around the college, which will make them want to look inside the magazine and find out more. The teasers have been coloured white so they stand out from the main headline and catch the reader’s attention.

In order to do this all, I used Adobe Photoshop which I had fairly got used to and worked my way finding out the key tools such as the magic erase tool and the blur tool. However apart from this, I worked and played around and managed to get the magazine layout how I wanted it to look. I believe that my Photoshop skills can still be developed in order to make my magazine front cover more appealing, so that it can be sold in stores.

My content page matched the colour scheme of my front page and therefore the combination of content and front cover is well combined. I also added the masthead named ‘LSC contents’. The word content is in white so that the reader knows instantly of what page they are reading.

I put 3 photographs I had taken myself along the right hand side of the page so that the reader’s attention would immediately be drawn. I think it is a very simple and attractive layout. These images are of students at LSC. I chose these three images for the contents page because how the images are presented forward looks exciting and engaging and presents how LSC has a fun environment. This will attract the reader’s attention.
I also included the different events that will be on each page with the page number quite big and bold. To do the contents page I used InDesign which I found quite difficult to start with but then worked my way around and developed exceptional content page which made my magazine content page look even more realistic.
