preliminary task evaluation : LSC magazine

Evaluation: Ameer Hamza Ahmed
For my preliminary task magazine I created a magazine for Leyton Sixth Form College students. So therefore I called the masthead LSC. I think it is simple and straight forward which is what mostly every reader is looking for. I placed the masthead in the top left corner; it is a big sized font in the colour. Red was chosen because it stands out well with the black background this would catch the reader’s attention.
My main image is a medium close up of a student working and is placed right at the centre and stands out in front of the front cover. It is a suitable shot as it shows the student working and it connotes that LSC students are important. The student shows he is smiling which connotes to the readers that he is happy studying and enjoying his time in LSC.

My main cover line links with the main image as it talks about the person in the main image. The font is red and bold which relates with the masthead and so stands out. I also have added teasers which inform the reader what is going on around the college, which will make them want to look inside the magazine and find out more. The teasers have been coloured white so they stand out from the main headline and catch the reader’s attention.

In order to do this all, I used Adobe Photoshop which I had fairly got used to and worked my way finding out the key tools such as the magic erase tool and the blur tool. However apart from this, I worked and played around and managed to get the magazine layout how I wanted it to look. I believe that my Photoshop skills can still be developed in order to make my magazine front cover more appealing, so that it can be sold in stores.

My content page matched the colour scheme of my front page and therefore the combination of content and front cover is well combined. I also added the masthead named ‘LSC contents’. The word content is in white so that the reader knows instantly of what page they are reading.

I put 3 photographs I had taken myself along the right hand side of the page so that the reader’s attention would immediately be drawn. I think it is a very simple and attractive layout. These images are of students at LSC. I chose these three images for the contents page because how the images are presented forward looks exciting and engaging and presents how LSC has a fun environment. This will attract the reader’s attention.
I also included the different events that will be on each page with the page number quite big and bold. To do the contents page I used InDesign which I found quite difficult to start with but then worked my way around and developed exceptional content page which made my magazine content page look even more realistic.
